So what exactly is Physique Transformation? I'm getting asked that question a lot lately. Isn't it just another way to say "weight loss program? " What makes it so different? Why are you so passionate about it?

 Physique Transformation is the gateway to a "performance lifestyle," a term I recently read in an e-mail I received from Dr. Gerald Chartier. It really is a great way to describe the people who do Physique Transformation programs.

Physique Transformation Overview

One of the things makes our Physique Transformation program unique is its emphasis on education to get you fit, not some gadget or potion. No student ever made it though medical school by taking magic "doctor" pills. No college graduate ever got that coveted Ph.D. by drinking a "smart" shake for break fast and lunch and eating a sensible dinner. And no novice skier ever made it to the winter Olympics by buying the "ski like the pros Insta-Ski" machine for three easy payments of $29.95!

Ric Rooney I know you're laughing at the absurdity of my examples, as well you should. But why don't people laugh when it comes to the fitness "jokes" that bombard them every day? Why do otherwise rational people continue to buy into the myth of "take this pill and you can eat anything you want yet still lose weight," and their willingness to blindly buy anything and everything that promises a fit body in just three easy payments?

Physique Transformation is first and foremost about telling it like it is when it comes to getting in shape. It's about the truth; that there are no miracle diet pills or magic ab machines that get you that six pack in just six minutes a week. That you have to accept the reality that there is no glory, without effort.

What in your life of any significance have you ever accomplished without effort? What makes success so satisfying is knowing that you elevated yourself from the crowd. You paid the price. You were tested...and you were found "worthy."

There are two tenets to professional Physique Transformation work. The first is to use your own metabolism as the primary mechanism to burn fat, not exercise. You exercise for shape and contour but you use metabolism to burn fat. It's the difference between using a sailboat (i.e. metabolism) to get from one end of the lake to the other as opposed to a rowboat (i.e. cardio, cardio, cardio.) One method is effortless and sustainable. The other is agony and works only as long as you row.

But it's the second tenet that is turning the diet world upside down. And that is using a higher calorie diet as the basis for weight loss, instead of the conventional reduced calorie starvation diet that is the norm with the vast majority of commercial weight loss programs.

Physique Transformation is a movement that began in the fitness community and is spreading rapidly to the general public through a good old-fashioned, low-tech, grass roots effort. Its primary focus is on diet and specifically food as the primary tool to get you fit. While certain supplements are an essential part of the fitness equation, they should serve in a secondary role to fill the nutritional "holes" in your diet, not the magic bullet that alone will change your physique.

We're not the first to first to bring this movement to the forefront of current fitness theory. There are others who understand the process. Bill Phillips is probably the best known, as is his book "Body for life." But Susan Powter had it right in her book, "Stop the Insanity." And Philip Goglia has the philosophy down cold in his book "Turn up the Heat." More recently, Michael Thurmond of "Extreme Makeover" fame has been repeating the mantra "You MUST eat in order to lose weight." Mike's got it right and there are more every day that are joining the movement to a fit, lean body achieved through a healthy "performance lifestyle" of proper exercise and correct diet.

Hmmm, Ric, former bodybuilder, single digit body fat physique still at 53. Bill Phillips, former bodybuilder, lean and awesome physique. Philip Goglia, built like a brick s*&%house! Maybe us bodybuilders know something?
